How to make Raita?

Ingredients to Raita Recipe

  • 1 cup of curd
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup diced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup diced tomato
  • 1/2 inch ginger (chopped)
  • salt as per requirement
  • Pinch of turmeric powder
  • 2  chopped green chilies
  • Chopped coriander

Step 1: At first wash all the vegetables and chop it into the pieces. Next to a container add 1/2 cup diced onion, 1/2 cup diced cucumber, 1/2 cup diced tomato, 1/2 inch chopped ginger and 2 chopped green chilies. Next add turmeric powder and salt as required to the container.

Step 2: Finally add curd to the vegetables and coriander leaves. Afterwards chill raita in refrigerator for 30 minutes and serve it.

Tips to make a perfect Raita

  • Avoid adding water as tomato and cucumber releases water.
  • Add salt after adding curd, as vegetables release water and the salad may become watery.
  • Add fresh and thick curd.
  • Drain excess water from curd.
  • Use fresh vegetables especially while it comes to tomato. Don’t add unripe or sour tomatoes it might ruin Raita.
  • Add tomatoes in moderation.
  • You can also add cumin or chili powder.
  • Can replace cucumber and tomatoes with beetroot and carrot.
  • Chilling the raita is optional.

You can pair Raita with

  1. Biryani
  2. Pulao
  3. Egg rice
  4. Ghee rice
  5. other rice based meals.
